About the Author
Joanne Ryshpan-Harris, BCPA,CHW was a successful Social Media Specialist who became a Board- certified Patient Advocate. Joanne received a Certificate in Health Advocacy from UC Berkeley Extension. Joanne Studied at the University of Phoenix, Undergraduate degree in Psychology for which she has 90 credits. Joanne received a certificate as a Community Health Worker from the Community College of Southern Nevada .She is also an accredited Community Health Worker in Nevada. She has accomplished many things in her life but none as rewarding as going back to school and obtaining a “Certificate in Health Advocacy” from the University of Southern California Berkeley. Joanne also worked as a Tutor and Substitute Teacher for many years. As a child, Joanne was like a little adult. She knew inherently how to help her peers with personal and medical issues. She one time helped her fellow classmate by taking her to the nurse's office and staying to help her get through her pain. Even though Joanne has always been a great researcher in business, she has also helped many people to navigate the health care system and other issues as they arose. When she was 10, Joanne took an American Red Cross babysitting course that included CPR Adult and Child and Basic First Aid. She has held a card as well for 7 of the 8 years that she has been substitute teaching. Her basic knowledge enabled her to help students when they had accidents before the school nurse came to the scene. Joanne has successfully aided several families in her community with issues that they could not do themselves and was a paid Health Advocate for them. Her savvy and perseverance helped her to get things done. One of the families she helped needed her assistance to go with the family to fill out a disability application for a man who was mentally challenged. He needed government income. In addition to this, this man did not have a physical address. He lived autonomously in a basement apartment that didn’t have an address. She helped the family get an address for the man so, he could receive government income. It was a successful outcome. In addition to her working as a Health advocate, she has given 20 years to an organization that gives grants to young people in the Grenadian community (Playmas Montreal Cultural Association). She has also volunteered to be a Social Media Chairperson at the National Association of Professional Women in the local Las Vegas Chapter and Social Media Coordinator for CEDSA,(Center for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). Volunteering was always important to Joanne. She started volunteering at the Montreal General Hospital as a Candy Stripper when she was fourteen. She worked in the restaurant, gift shop and visited the patients on the floors with either a snack cart or a library cart. Joanne also created a page on Facebook for kids and teens called, “Stop Teenage Assault and Bullying” The page posts articles on teen suicide and other types of bulling, There is a number posted on the site to contact when someone needs help although, it is not run directly through the page itself. It only serves as a reference. Her hobbies are: Being a Foodie, Songwriting, Cooking, Outdoor photography, Acrylic Painting, Baking, and Singing. She has written and published a children’s book entitled, “The Great Adventures of Bottom the Bassett Hound.” If you require any additional information or referrals, please contact her on LinkedIn at: Linkedin.com/in/joanneryshpanharris
