Uploading photos

Hello, I'm trying to understand the proper process because when I'm uploading logos to place on wiki pages, Im citing their location and where they are from. I'm in no way intending to breach copyright laws, and cite my sources Ajlf2787 (talk) 23:41, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

@Ajlf2787: Hi, On Wikimedia Commons, you need a formal written permission from the copyright holder to upload works not entirely made by you. Stop deleting categories for Unicode characters

You've recently "empty categories" related to Unicode character blocks. Stop doing that, these are not intended to be empty and they are part of a standard where we need a reference to them. These are patiently built, images are coming. You violate an existing policy on Commons about these specific topic. and this has the bad effect of blocking file uploads for characters. and their classification, so these images are spread in random categories by uploaders. All Unicode blocks and Unicode characters are relevant in Commons, even if there's still no images in them, the description and the links are present. By deleting these categories, you delete patient work on these descriptions. verdy_p (talk) 05:36, 18 June 2025 (UTC)

Hello, you deleted File:Shamkhal gerey.jpg as copyvio. Would the rest of the user's uploads also be copyvios since they seem to be similar. File:Shamkhal gerey.jpg has now been reuploaded as File:AdilGerey.jpg by another user with a very similar username, so possibly sockpuppetry going on. Here are that user's uploads. @Chuuuvak: Hi, No, your licenses are not valid. For example, for File:Kurili Hokkaido from Kunashir.jpg, there is no evidence of a free license at the source (and for me, the source website is dead). @Yann - I see your FP nomination of File:Mahatma Gandhi leaves Presidency Jail in Calcutta.jpg. It inspired me to read about Gandhi's visits with the political prisoners and negotiations for their release. I came across a timeline of Gandhi's activities in 1938. From the timeline, it seems that the visit was either on 8 April 1938 (""Had talk with political prisoners of Presidency jail") or on 12 April 1938 ("Visited women political prisoners in Presidency Jail.") not 16 April 1938 ("Arrived in Wardha, Segaon.").

QUESTION: Do you have any other info about the date of the photo? (The uploader seems to be a banned user, so not a place for inquiry.) -- ERcheck (talk) 18:17, 26 June 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion Yotobi

Hi Yann, I see that you speedily deleted File:Yotobi by AlexSvartengel.jpg. Could you please help me understand why, so I don't make the same mistake in the future? Here's what I did:

• I searched Google Images for content about Yotobi with Creative Commons licenses.
• I found this image on DeviantArt, which stated "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivatives Works 3.0 License." I thought this meant the image was released under a free license.
• I noticed that the drawing is signed by "Ilya12" and is attributed to "AlexSvartengel/Ilya Shebunov," whom I understand to be the author, Ilya.
• I then searched Google Images again for this drawing by Ilya and noticed it's only uploaded on DeviantArt.
• I uploaded the image to Commons and provided the information I had: author, license, and source.
